Thackley Thunder 0-14 Shipley Lions
After the freezing weather of last weekend and the lack of any football, it was back to business as usual. The boys had put a lot of hard work in on the training ground leading up to this match and it paid off with a thrilling win over our local rivals.
The Lions started the game with a high tempo and it wasn’t long before they took full advantage.
1-0 Matthew Swallow proved to be too strong for the Thackley defence and after a strong run he slotted the ball across the keeper and into the bottom corner, great early goal.
2-0 The team settled down well and Matthew Swallow made a lighting run down the right wing and crossed brilliantly to find Louis Anderson who calmly put the ball into the back of the net.
Charlie Menzies, Harris Dobson and William Patterson marshalled the defence well and after a goal mouth scramble they managed to clear the ball from danger. Great defending.
3-0 Matthew Swallow went on one of his runs and hammered a long shot into the bottom corner.
4-0 After some crunching tackles in midfield by Harris Dobson he managed to get the ball into the Thackley area and found Sam Collett who coolly slotted the ball passed the keeper.
Even though the Lions were well in control of the game Thackley kept working hard and were nearly rewarded with a goal after a long shot narrowly missed. Louis Turner who was wearing the goal keeper’s jersey in the first half played well and maintained a clean sheet.
5-0 The Lions were really enjoying the game and the fifth goal came from a Matthew Swallow long shot leaving the keeper no chance.
Harris Dobson was having his best game to date with a number of really strong runs which nearly resulted in a goal and also some great defending using his bottom!!!!
A lapse in the Lions defence put the Thackley strikers clean through on goal but fortunately they shot just wide.
6-0 Louis Fialdini got hold of the ball on the edge of the penalty area and with a lovely strike smashed it passed the keeper.
7-0 Some great work in midfield by Will Robinson and he found Louis Fialdini for his second.
Some great play from Will Patterson with some crunching tackles in defence and midfield
Shots were coming from all directions now from Will Robinson Louis Fialdini and Sam Collett
2nd half
Sam Collett started in goal and although he had a quite half he maintained his concentration throughout.
The Lions started where they finished the first half
8-0 Louis Fialdini grabbed his hatrick with a strong shot into the bottom corner.
9-0 Great run and cross from Harvey Weston-Beyer found Louis Turner in the box and he got his first of the match.
10-0 A good run from Louis Anderson saw him smash the ball into the roof of the net. A goal that Torres would have been proud of.
11-0 After some hectic goal mouth scrambles and some super saves from the Thackley keeper but Louis Turner managed to find the back of the net after another goal mouth scramble.
Charlie Menzies was unlucky not to get on the score sheet with a rocket of a shot which came back off the post.
12-0 Long shot from Louis Fialdini left the keeper standing.
13-0 Only Louis Turner will be able to tell you if it was a shot or a cross. Great finish though.
14-0 Great ball in from Harvey Weston-Beyer found Louis Fialdini stood at the back post for a tap in.
Having only played one game in over two months and the appalling playing conditions, the Lions produced a spirited performance reflecting in the score line.
The Man of the Match goes to Harris Dobson who never stopped running all match and was extremely unlucky not to score after some blistering runs. Well done Harris.
Thanks must go to the Thackley Thunders who never let there heads drop and played some good football.
Well Done Lions |
